President Obama runs the risks of doing another LBJ : great social programs at home, but a military disaster abroad.

I don't think this violence-prone american society coupled with the industrial-military complex will let him off the hook: the odds are that he will have to escalate the war in Afghanistan, which is doomed to failure.

Like LBJ, he might become a one-term president, unless he's heeding the lessons of history and pull back from both countries in time...and he's great enough to do that.

What a beautiful state, where a convicted US senator has chances to be re-elected by its people. Alaska is probably the most corrupted state in the union. Hmm I'm wondering if OIL has anything to do with this state of affairs ? Hey, I would also love my politicians if I had no sales tax, no state tax and they sent me $3000 in the mail every year ! But, as Obama and McCain both said in their final debate when faced with a real tough question, I'm just a cynic...

The Democratic race for president has descended to “a level of meanness and acrimony that is damaging to American politics,” the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth said today.

The Swift Boat group, which became famous in 2004 for attacking Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, said that it was speaking out because “the current Democratic contest is giving Swift-boating a bad name.”

“We have increasingly heard pundits accusing Clinton and Obama of Swift-boating each other,” said Swift Boat Veteran Tracy Klugian. “This hurts the reputation of Swift-boating.”

Mr. Klugian was quick to draw a distinction between what Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are doing and Swift-boating, which he called “a noble profession.”

“When you try to destroy a member of another party, that’s Swift-boating,” said Mr. Klugian. “When you do it to a member of your own party, that’s cannibalism.”

He said that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth would soon air ads attacking both Democratic candidates for sullying the reputation of Swift-boating.

“Tear each other up if you want to, but don’t take Swift-boating down with you,” he said. “That’s just unfair.”

The Swift Boat Veterans’ statement came on the heels of a similar statement by the Weather Underground, a 1960s radical group that has been tied to both the Obama and Clinton camps over the past week.

“We denounce and reject both candidates,” said the Weather Underground, which has seen its approval ratings plummet in recent days.

Barack will eventually clinch the nomination but how does he keep Hillary off the ticket without alienating Democratic female voters ? with the upcoming mess at the Denver convention, she will want to lawyer her way onto the VP spot, but that is just about the only way to energize the right to victory in November.

The answer for Barack is to take another woman as his VP. Arizona's governor Janet Napolitano would be just perfect. Unless there is a "security scare October surprise", they could landslide McCain in November.
